Thunder Shaffer of the Antelope 4-H club won the last young bird race of the 2009 season from Madras, Ore. His blue check pigeon, AU 2009 RBPC 0978, flew 310 miles at a speed of 55 mph against 113 pigeons on Oct. 24.
