For members that want to attract new participants, or those who want to improve positive awareness of the hobby, Leadership Series CD 2 will provide a lot of ideas.
CD 2 -Public
Awareness/Education and Member Recruitment will be recognizable as
the Sport Promotion Program and the Membership
Growth and Promotion Guide created several years ago. They have been combined to be your bookshelf reference to
improving public awareness, gaining new members and developing community
support. Helpful contents include topics such as: How to set up an event for public to attend.
How to create a press release. Organizing a promotional campaign. What media
services the AU national office has for you to use. Setting up a promotion
display. Creating personalized handouts.
One example of an easy type of event, is the EXPO. The following sample schedule illustrates just how simple the event can be.
Give yourself 4
to 6 weeks to plan the event, depending on availability of the facility you
will be using. A schedule for the actual
day of the event may look something like this:
11:30 a.m. to noon: Guests arrive and are registered for the drawing.
11:45 a.m.: Announce first drawing
winner.
Noon - 12:30
p.m.: Presentation/Q & A
12:30 p.m.: Announce the bird release.
12:35 p.m.: Release.
12:40 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.: Announce and serve lunch. Club members should continue to visit with
guests and answer any questions they may have.
A grand prize drawing should be announced before guests finish lunch and
start to leave. REMIND them of any
upcoming club activities and continue to follow up with them.
The AU
will provide brochures and literature and will assist with the press releases. The PDF booklet on CD has a great deal of detail so carrying out each step of preparation makes the final event a hit.
